The Smart Transportation Demo project from Edgica wins the 2nd place in the Building Smarter Cities contest at Hackster.io. Our solution was selected among many others by an international jury of engineers and experts.

The contest was the opportunity for developers from around the world to solve real-world challenges from companies that are faced today. The participants were asked to create unique and innovative solutions, that never been applied in the Smart Cities domain, utilizing the IOTA Protocol.

The IOTA Foundation sponsored the competition, as well as other industry players. The challenge was created to encourage the development of innovations in the Smarter Cities domain. We participated in the Smart Mobility topic of the contest to address the innovations of smart vehicles, the safety of transportation, and many other aspects of the digital world around us. With our open source solution, we hope to contribute to the public safety of cargo transportation.

The idea is based on IOT components and the data shared with means of the IOTA’s Distributed Ledger Technology. Our demo-project is related to the recording of the GPS coordinates and data from sensors installed in vehicles to IOTA tangle for further usage in various use cases. You can find here a detailed description of the project, the open source code, list of hardware components, and instructions on how to build the solution.

We are excited to promote the approach of the distributed solutions involving data from different actors in the ecosystem. That method works way better than rigid centralized solutions! Do you agree?
